Before Installation:
- Connect a monitor, keyboard, and Ethernet cable to the server.
- Insert the USB stick you created earlier.
- Turn on the machine.
You might need to enter the BIOS/UEFI to boot from USB first. Usually, you press a key like Del
, F2
, F10
, F12
, or Esc
during startup — watch for a message like “Press F2 to enter Setup”.
Examples of BIOS/UEFI keys (may vary):
Dell — F2 or F12
Lenovo — F1 or F2
HP — Esc or F10
Acer — F2 or Del
ASUS — Del or F2
MSI — Del
Gigabyte — Del or F12
Toshiba — F2 or F12

In BIOS, go to Boot section, and move the USB drive to the top. Save changes and exit (usually F10
).
Now follow these screens:
➊ Language selection:
➋ Keyboard layout:
- Leave default (e.g. English US) or select your keyboard
➌ Choose the type of installation:
- Ubuntu Server preselected — you can just press Done
➍ Network configuration:
- If Ethernet is plugged in — it will be auto-configured
- Just press Done
➎ Configure proxy:
➏ Ubuntu archive mirror:
- Default mirror is fine, wait for the end of the test → press Done
➐ Guided storage configuration:
- Use an entire disk preselected (if not - select with spacebar)
- Choose the main internal drive (not the USB stick!), make sure to select the correct internal drive — the one you want Ubuntu Server to run from
- ⚠️ All data on this disk will be erased
- Press Done

- Press Continue to confirm formatting
➒ Set user and server name:
- Your name:

- Password: choose any secure password
➑ Upgrade to Ubuntu Pro:

- Select Install OpenSSH server (use

to check the box)
- Press Done

- Wait a few minutes while system installs
⓭ Reboot:
- Remove the USB stick when prompted
- Press Enter to reboot
